About Lucy
Hello! My name is Lucy, I'm a 23 year old graduate from Manchester, England. I graduated from the University of Cambridge last year with a 2:1 in English Literature - my interests relate broadly to Feminist Form in Contemporary Novels, Modern Language Poetry, Installation Art, Music and Film. I am currently completing the Graduate Diploma in Law with BPP University to earn a postgraduate degree in Law. I was recently awarded with a Training Contract from a top 100 London Law Firm commencing in 2020. My ultimate goal is to qualify as a Criminal or Family Law Solicitor and after a number of years gaining commercial experience I hope to work as an In-House Lawyer for Women's Aid and Immigration Charities.
For the previous two Summers, I have acted as a leading teacher for SAES (Seminar for Advanced English Studies), a Summer School specialising in preparing German students for their Abitur Examinations. I personally specialise in Textual Analysis, Shakespeare and Politics and Society. This year, I was selected to assist the Headteacher of the School in designing the new curriculum; I created a variety of Teaching Aids as well as new resources to be implemented from 2019. Furthermore, I acted as a teacher and Early Language Acquisition Specialist with Babylangues Paris from February to June this year, it was in Paris that I was also trained as an English as a Foreign Language Teacher.

My style is friendly and relaxed whilst aiming to maintain structured learning objectives. I have developed lesson plans that range from Essay Writing and Structuring, Grammatical Practice to Debate and Public Speaking. Often, my lessons are designed to unite a piece of literature with informed historical contexts, philosophy and literary theory. For example, a lesson on American Literature might incorporate a poem by Maya Angelou, an essay by journalist Garnette Cadogan and contemporary articles on American Politics. In this way, students are encouraged to develop an informed perspective of the subject, rather than just adhering to a mark scheme.
The best way to learn is to feel involved in the language and subject you wish to develop, and I believe that making the lessons fun is paramount to the learning process. Please do not hesitate to message me and discuss the best lesson for you, I'm more than happy to spend time tailoring something to your needs.
I have up to four years of experience teaching English as a Foreign Language, from the very youngest of children (ages 4-11) with French Companies such as Babylangues, to students (ages 11-18) in renowned International Summer Schools, to Professional Adults in a private context.

Lucy is a fantastic tutor!
She tutored my 8- and 14-year-old boys in English. They've never really shown an interest in the subject before, which is probably why they were performing poorly, but Lucy made it engaging for them, and they're getting a lot more from class now. I even caught my older (Luke) reading a book of his own accord...View more recommendations
