About Toby

I’m a Science graduate from the University of Cambridge with a strong interest in programming, machine learning, and problem-solving. I’ve competed internationally in the Informatics and Linguistics Olympiads, and have built and published Android apps and games with over 10,000 downloads. Alongside developing scientific and data-driven projects, I tutor students from beginner level up to Olympiad standard, focusing on building deep understanding and confidence. I aim to make programming intuitive, practical, and genuinely enjoyable to learn.

About the lesson

Hi, I’m Toby, a Cambridge Science graduate, with a strong background in programming and problem-solving. I teach Python, C++, Java, and general computational thinking, from complete beginners up to Olympiad level. In 2022, I was selected for the UK team for the International Informatics Olympiad, so I really know my stuff.

I’ve worked with students preparing for GCSEs, A-levels, and programming competitions (including the British Informatics Olympiad), and I focus on building real understanding rather than memorising syntax. I also design my own practice problems, so lessons are tailored and challenging in the right way.

Alongside teaching, I’ve built machine learning models, developed apps with over 10,000 downloads, and worked on real-world data and optimisation problems. I can show how programming is actually used beyond the classroom.

Lessons are relaxed but focused, and adapted to how you learn best.
