About Elisavet

I have just finished my PhD in Oceanography and Climate Science at the University of Cambridge, having completed my Bachelor's and Master's degrees here in Natural Sciences (Physics) prior to this. My research is very interdisciplinary, spanning physics, chemistry, biology and maths to look at how our planet works and how it is responding to climate change. Because I use a mix of all these subjects every day, I love showing students how the things they learn in school actually connect to the real world.

I began tutoring because I know how easily people can get overwhelmed by STEM. These subjects can feel intimidating, but it usually just takes the right perspective to unlock them. For me, the best part of teaching is watching a student's anxiety disappear when a difficult concept finally clicks, helping them build the confidence they need for their exams.

About the lesson

My goal is to build long-term confidence in students who find STEM intimidating, while stretching high-achieving students to reach their full potential. Lessons are interactive, conversational, and completely judgement-free.
Depending on what a student needs, our sessions focus on:
- Fixing the gaps: Breaking down complex concepts so they actually understand the topic, rather than just memorising it.
- Exam technique: Providing guided past-paper practice, focusing on how examiners award marks so they feel confident on exam day.
- University prep: Going beyond the syllabus to stretch high-achieving students and prepare them for top grades and university-level thinking.

I have over 5 years of teaching experience across both school and university levels. Alongside my private tutoring practice, I lead small-group mathematics supervisions for Cambridge undergraduates and run university engineering laboratory classes.

Over the last 6 months alone, I have successfully guided students through GCSE Maths and Physics, and recently coached a student to straight A*s in her 13+ Common Entrance Science exams.

Subjects & Levels Offered:
13+ Common Entrance & KS3: Science and Mathematics
GCSE: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
A-Level: Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, which is ideal for mastering a core concept before concentration drops. For advanced A-Level topics or multi-subject tutoring, I also offer 90-minute or 2-hour sessions.

The First Lesson (Initial Consultation)
Please note that my first free lesson is a 20-30 minute initial consultation (held online).
This is a casual, no-pressure chat for me to meet you and your child, discuss their current grades, identify the specific areas they are struggling with, and map out a tailored plan for our future sessions.
