About Afifah
I am a computer science graduate with a strong academic background and extensive teaching experience. I completed my undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the University of Washington (UW) and I am currently pursuing an MPhil in Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cambridge. My approach to tutoring focuses on building strong conceptual understanding and confidence. Rather than memorising formulas or procedures, I help students understand why a concept works and how to apply it across different types of problems. I typically begin by identifying where a student feels stuck and then break complex ideas into smaller, manageable steps. I also use practice problems, interactive discussion, and real-world examples to reinforce learning and develop problem-solving skills.
A typical lesson includes reviewing prior material, clarifying difficult concepts, working through problems together step-by-step, and allowing the student to practice independently while I provide guidance. I also like to introduce interesting extensions or real-world examples when appropriate, which can help students stay curious and motivated.
I am currently completing an MPhil in Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cambridge, and previously studied Computer Science at the University of Washington. I have extensive teaching experience, including supervising computer science students at Cambridge, working as a teaching assistant for large undergraduate courses, and teaching programming to learners from many different backgrounds. These experiences have given me practice explaining technical concepts clearly and adapting to different learning styles.
