About the lesson

I am a recent first-class graduate from Cambridge University, where I studied theoretical physics for my BA and pure mathematics for my MA. I obtained a 1st in every year of my degree (MA ungraded due to coronavirus pandemic). I am passionate about mathematics, physics and the sciences, and am aiming for a career in academia at the interface of pure mathematics and theoretical computer science. I love sharing my enthusiasm for these subjects with others!

I know that excelling in examinations is about more than just understanding a topic in depth, though this is a necessary starting point. Having achieved full UMS marks in all of my A2 and AS examination (Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry at A2 and Biology AS) and A* in all of my GCSEs, I am very familiar with the nuances of examinations, and the the particular skills and techniques that can help to boost your grade. I have also had success in more advanced competitions, including a Gold Award in the British Biology Olympiad, Top 50 Gold in the British Physics Olympiad, Gold and Best in School 4 years running in the UKMT math challenges and Senior Kangaroo challenge.

My teaching philosophy is based on my educational experience and exam success, in addition to a firm belief that all learning, skill development and knowledge acquisition should transfer to life beyond exams. I focus on four key teaching aspects; first, guiding the student to develop a deep understanding of a topic, so that they can apply their knowledge in different contexts; second, helping the student develop problem solving skills and construct a clear methodology for tackling problems; third, ensuring a student retains learnt material through recap and review; and finally, helping them master exam technique and feel confident.

I understand that everyone thinks differently, and for me one of the most exciting aspects of tutoring is maintaining a dynamic and adaptable approach to most effectively facilitate a student's academic development- ultimately helping them to achieve their best and meet and exceed their goals.
