About Ethan

Hi guys! My name is Ethan, and I've been teaching English in schools/privately for more than 7 years now. I studied English Literature at Cambridge University for my undergraduate degree, before going on to Edinburgh University where I did a Master's degree in Film and Philosophy. Currently, I work for a film production company and spend lots of my time reading scripts and working with writers. I love to think creatively and curiously about stories - which is the idea at the heart of studying English - and I hope to share that curiosity with you in our lessons. Whether English is your bogey subject at school - I still have nightmares about Geography myself - or you want to get yourself up to the highest possible grade, I can help. In our lessons, we will consistently set and achieve goals with thorough, tailor-made sessions that'll boost your confidence and skills one step at a time. Poetry, prose, Literature, Language: you name it, I've taught it, and I'd love to use my experience and passion to help you step your English game up as much as possible... and maybe get rid of those bogey subject vibes. About the lesson

My lessons are carefully tailored to the individual needs and abilities of each student. Whether a student is aiming for top exam results or looking to build confidence in English, I design each session with clear, achievable goals and a flexible approach that meets them where they are whilst challenging them as much as possible. With a firm and thorough understanding of a range of curricula including GCSE, A-Level, IB, and university-level study, I help students not only grasp what is required, but genuinely engage with the material and come to fully understand it. Lessons might involve close textual analysis, structured essay planning, creative writing, or targeted grammar and comprehension work, but they are always grounded in a method that makes sense for the student first and foremost. Clarity and structure are hugely important building blocks for learning, so I place great emphasis on that approach in my teaching. Above all, I bring a warm, supportive, and encouraging presence to each session. I aim to create a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking intellectual risks, and developing their own voice and confidence over time.
