When I was in high school, I struggled with math as well, it wasn't until my junior year when it clicked for me. Since then, I've trained myself on how to solve/simplify various problems to prepare me for a career in teaching.

Also, as is true with many areas within mathematics, there are often more than 1 route to navigate any problem.
