About Humaira
I'm a software engineer and Computer Science teacher based in the UK, with a BSc in Software Engineering from Nottingham Trent University and a PGCE in Computer Science currently underway. Through my PGCE I've taught GCSE and A-level CS in secondary schools and I'm working towards Qualified Teacher Status, so my tutoring is grounded in both real classroom experience and current exam board requirements.
Day to day I work as a software engineer, which means the concepts I teach aren't abstract to me. When I explain recursion, data structures or Python to a student, I'm drawing on things I work with regularly, not just things I studied years ago.
I've also tutored A-level Computer Science privately for several years, working with students across different ability levels and helping them build genuine understanding rather than just surface familiarity with the spec. I know where students tend to lose marks and how to address the gaps efficiently.
I take punctuality, preparation and clear communication seriously. Every student I work with gets my full attention during sessions, honest feedback on where they're at, and a clear sense of what to focus on next. I won't tell you you're doing fine if you're not, and I won't overcomplicate things that don't need to be complicated.
Whether you're retaking a GCSE, pushing for an A at A-level or struggling with a first-year university module, I'll meet you where you are and work from there.

My approach starts with diagnosis. Before anything else I want to know where the gap actually is, because patching the wrong thing wastes everyone's time. A student who seems to struggle with recursion might actually have a shaky understanding of functions, and that's what we'd fix first.
I teach online via Zoom with a shared whiteboard, which keeps sessions interactive. I don't lecture. We work through problems together, I ask questions, and I adjust based on how you respond. If an explanation isn't landing I'll try a different angle, a real-world analogy, a stripped-back example, or building something small from scratch to make the concept concrete.
Sessions are typically an hour. For exam-focused students that's usually split between concept work and past paper practice with feedback. For university students or anyone working on a project, sessions are more flexible depending on what's needed that week.
My lessons are suitable for:
GCSE students (ages 14-16) preparing for their Computer Science exam. A-level students (ages 16-18) working through the full specification. University students needing support with Python, data structures, algorithms, or introductory machine learning.
First session is a relaxed diagnostic so we can figure out exactly what would help most.
