About Kari
I have my Honors in BSc Neurophysiology as well as PGCE in Sciences. I have experience in teaching: 1. IEB and CAPS curriculum: Math and Physical Science from Gr 8-12 at Master Maths. 2. IGCSE Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at British Royal College. 3. AS Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at British Royal College. I have pursued the field of Science because I enjoy the application of logical thinking as a tool for exploring and satisfying my curiosity about the world around me. As a tutor and teacher, I aim to provide my students with the analytical skills useful in science, including the ability to think and express one’s self logically and the capability to learn outside the traditional classroom setting. I am currently operating as an Education Specialist in Math and Sciences at a private institution. My education and work experience have taught me a lot about the profession, and to my delight, I have loved every bit of it. I have robust experience in applying a wide variety of teaching and assessment methodologies and contributing to the design and development of teaching material. I implement various technology platforms to aid in student learning as well as online teaching.

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the student's personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject. My lessons will be targeted, efficient, bespoke and relaxed. A confident learner is a successful learner and that confidence is crucial. My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However, my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I teach lessons that are truly tailor-made to my student. The way I teach will be informed by them and their ability, the way I structure my questions, and the way I might even ask the questions, are all driven by that ability, and where they are in their development of mathematical thinking. I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student’s understanding and application, I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as application and logical thought. Teaching is a two-way process so expect questions. Lots and a lot of questions. If any stumbling blocks have been encountered I will use a range of questioning techniques to get to the bottom of the problem. Once identified bridges will be built, and firm foundations laid, on which to build even more knowledge. One of the key benefits of Online Teaching is having the opportunity to assess a student's knowledge in a relaxed, calm and non-judgmental environment, and remedy where appropriate. I aim to do much more than just increase grades. I aim to inspire, increase confidence and show that Math is something that everyone can do. I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.
