About Angelica

I have degrees in Communications and Art & Culture Management, and I'm currently pursuing certification in Italian teaching.
I have completed a training as a teacher of Italian as a foreign language at Taalhuis Amsterdam, and gained some experience as a private teacher and tutor. My current pursuit of teaching Italian is partly rooted in my marrying an English native speaker who doesn't speak my native language!

I was born in Naples, and then studied and worked in various Italian cities (including Rome and Turin) before moving to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I've always maintained a strong connection to Italy, cultivating a deep and broad knowledge of the country as well as its language and culture.

I learned Dutch in the Netherlands in my 30s, so I know what it feels like to try to learn a new language as an adult! If the challenge scares you even a little, I understand, and I'll be able to help you overcome the performance anxiety that can come with approaching a beautiful and complex language like Italian.

I've always worked in communications and culture, in roles ranging from brand manager to television editor to creative consultant. Much of my professional life has revolved around languages and writing(especially Italian and English). I've also often mentored younger colleagues, facilitated workshops, and managed projects across teams. I love helping people realise their potential, providing personalised support.

I have a creative and eclectic personality. My interests are varied: books, music, art, cinema, sewing, cooking, nature, plants, yoga, social sciences, board games, and much more. I have dear friends of different nationalities and cultures, scattered around the world, and I'm passionate about intercultural communication. Connecting people and contributing to a sense of community are among the things that bring me the most joy in the world.

About the lesson

I offer lessons that are both effective and engaging. My approach is based on a customised communicative teaching method, and puts you -- your learning style, goals, and priorities -- at the centre of your own learning journey.

We will start from identifying your motivation, your goals and expectations. If you decide to start a curriculum with me, we will agree on a path to learning Italian that is right for you, your learning style, your previous knowledge of the language and culture, your lifestyle... I will meet you at your specific starting point. We will follow the plan, but also leave room for spontaneity, curiosity, and creativity.

If you are curious about the Italian culture and society I will incorporate insights into real-life Italy in our classes.

I am patient, empathetic, and supportive. Having lived abroad, I know first-hand the emotional challenges that come with trying to learn a new language as an adult.

I love languages and cultures, and I'm very curious. I am sure we will have lots to talk about... and I know you will find your words 'in Italiano'!

Whether you are starting from scratch or are already somewhat familiar with the language, I can meet you where you are at and help you get to the next level, be it A1 or C2!
