About Pauline

As a native French speaker raised in France, I bring not only fluency in the language but also a deep understanding of French culture and the nuances that make the language come alive. I recently graduated with an Honors degree in Political Science from McGill University, where I also had the privilege of serving as a mentor to fellow students on numerous occasions. This strengthened my ability to distill complex concepts.

Having lived and studied in an international environment, I understand the challenges of learning a new language firsthand. In addition to French and English, I also speak Spanish, which allows me to adapt my explanations to students from different linguistic backgrounds and better anticipate common learning difficulties.

My goal is to create a safe environment where you feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. Ultimately, my top priority is for you to enjoy your lesson!

About the lesson

My teaching approach is centered on helping you develop practical, real-world French skills rather than simply memorizing grammar rules (although we'll definitely tackle grammar too - it’s unavoidable!). My goal is to help you feel confident communicating naturally in a wide range of everyday, academic, or professional situations.

Each lesson balances speaking, listening, reading, and writing. For example, we might begin with an informal conversation to build your confidence and expand your vocabulary, then move on to targeted written exercises, such as fill-in-the-blank activities, reading comprehension, or grammar practice tailored to your level.

One aspect of my teaching is my emphasis on French culture. I love incorporating literature, poetry, and music into my lessons whenever possible. Together, we might analyze a poem, discuss the lyrics of a French song, or explore a famous painting. That way, you will naturally improve your language skills while gaining new insights into Francophone culture.

At the end of every lesson, we review the key vocabulary and grammar points we've covered. At the beginning of our next session, we'll revisit these concepts by writing or saying a few sentences using the new words or grammatical structures. This regular retrieval practice is one of the most effective ways to build long-term retention and ensure that what you learn stays with you.

Of course, no two students are the same. That's why I tailor each lesson to your individual needs, interests, and goals, ensuring that we progress at a pace that works best for you.
