About Gillian
I'm Gillian, aka Hui Juan in Chinese "Pin Yin". If you can correctly pronounce my name, I'm already impressed!
I was born and raised in China until I graduated from College, which translates to over 12 years of studying Chinese myself due to the curriculum requirement. In mid 2010s, I came to the States to pursue a different major from Architecture. I'm so excited to get on the journey with you in learning this language. People claim that it's one of the most difficult language to learn, but, who doesn't want a challenge?

If you love also to know about the history and culture, hesitate no more! As a former Architecture student and president to Chinese Tea Associate during college, I have had the privilege to learn so much on top of the language itself. From the viral slang to insight into China's rich history and culture, here I am to design the lesson with you and help you to reach your goals in leaning Chinese!
I am believer in "learning-then-using" in terms of picking up a foreign language. And it needs both the teacher and student to work well together on this long journey. A typical lesson, if it's our first time to work together, will start from some small talks for me to understand your Chinese level in all four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing; as well as your goal in each level in such language. Throughout the classes we work on together, I will include the history/origin of Chinese characters, as well as the evolution of this language from Chinese literature and calligraphy so it's so understandable and easy to pick up. My classes are designed so that after the class, with assignments, you will find your own progression by utilizing the language.
