About Carl
Hi, I'm Carl, an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with over 10 years' experience working in microbiology laboratories across both the NHS and industry.
I've always been fascinated by biology and infectious diseases, which led me to complete an MSc in Clinical Microbiology. This September I'll be starting a funded doctoral training programme with the Open University in partnership with the University of Oxford.
Throughout my career I've enjoyed helping colleagues develop their knowledge and confidence, and tutoring feels like a natural extension of that. I know from years of experience that biology can sometimes seem overwhelming, especially when you're faced with large amounts of content and unfamiliar terminology. My goal is to make difficult concepts feel approachable and help you build confidence alongside your understanding.
Whether you're studying for GCSEs, A-levels or a university degree, I'd love to help you achieve your goals.

I'm a current HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with over 10 years' experience working in NHS and private accredited laboratories. Although I'm new to private tutoring, I've spent much of my career training colleagues, developing laboratory procedures and explaining complex scientific concepts to people with different levels of experience.
My aim is to help students genuinely understand biology rather than simply memorise facts. I believe that once the underlying concepts make sense, exam questions become much easier to tackle and students gain confidence in their own ability.
Lessons are tailored to each student and can focus on new topics, revision, exam technique or coursework support. I encourage questions throughout and will adapt the pace to suit each individual.
Most lessons are one hour long and are suitable for GCSE, A-level and university students studying biology, microbiology, molecular biology, physiology or related biomedical science subjects.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
I've known Carl since we were very young, we spent much of our childhood together, and have remained close friends into adulthood. Throughout that time, he has developed both personally and academically, and his enthusiasm for education inspired me to continue my own.
Carl has always been fascinated by science. As children we were always exploring and investigating things, he taught me how to prepare microscope slides at eight years old, and that enthusiasm for learning has never faded.
Alongside his dedication and hard work, Carl has developed excellent interpersonal skills. He's always happy to answer questions and explain ideas in a way that's easy to understand, and I've learned a great deal from him over the years. His knowledge, patience and enthusiasm for biology and microbiology makes him well equipped to tutor, and I recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and supportive mentor.Carl's knowledge of Biology is only surpassed by his passion for the subject. I've previously watched Carl give talks and presentations relating to healthcare and microbiology to individuals of various ages and abilities and he was able to make the sessions accessible and interesting to all
Carl is brilliant, super patient and has excellent biology knowledge. His passion for the subject really shines through.
Carl has a genuine gift for teaching concepts in biology and microbiology. Even in high-pressure environments like a working laboratory, he has a proven track record of getting personnel trained quickly and efficiently in a supportive, considerate manner. Carl is able to engage effectively with a broad range of people in and out of professional lab work, from fellow biologists to (in my case) chemists with little background in biology, to those with no background at all.
