About Aliyah
Hello everyone! My name is Aliyah :) I am American, currently living in Florida in the United States. I love to travel and learn about new languages and cultures. I am a biology student, I love sci-fi and fantasy, the beach, hiking, roller skating, and animals. I am a TEFL certified English teacher and have been informally tutoring friends and family for many years. Since my late teenage years, I have developed a love for travel. I have visited Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Denmark, England, and a few states in the United States. I love to talk about traveling experiences with my students and hearing about theirs as well. I got my start by tutoring my peers in school, and decided to go through with the certification process and pursue this as a career. I look forward to accepting new students!

I would describe myself as a go-with-the-flow teacher. Especially for higher level students, my focus is on fluidity and conversation quality, and not so much on correctness every single time. I find this not only helps to develop fluency, but confidence in speaking as well. Speech patterns, diction, pronunciation, word order, vocabulary, and colloquialisms are where I like to focus in my teaching to help students sound more natural/native when they speak. A typical lesson in my class will of course, be based off of student needs. I use a number of teaching methods based on how students learn with a strong focus on production of language. The general structure would be a warm up to teach the concept, controlled practice to learn the concept, and review/production to tweak any parts of the lesson the student needs extra help with.
