About Joshua

I am a DPhil (PhD) Candidate in Biology at the University of Oxford, specialising in ecology, evolution, and environmental science. My research explores collective behaviour and scalable conservation technologies, combining ecological fieldwork, behavioural analysis, and data science to address pressing environmental challenges. I hold a First Class BSc in Zoology from the University of Nottingham, where I consistently achieved top marks across all years of study, including 98% in my second-year dissertation and multiple pieces of coursework scoring above 85%. My academic excellence was recognised through several awards, including the Chris Barnard Prize (2023) and selection for the British Ecological Society’s Next Generation Bursary Scheme. My research experience spans a wide range of ecological systems and organisations, including mark-recapture studies in Trinidad, biodiversity surveys in the French Alps, entomological fieldwork in Croatia, and lab-based species identification with Forest Research. I have also contributed to published work in Nature, reflecting my commitment to high-quality, collaborative science. Driven by curiosity and a deep respect for the natural world, I aim to use my research to bridge the gap between cutting-edge ecological theory and real-world conservation practice.

About the lesson

Teaching Methodology and Approach: My teaching focuses on developing deep understanding rather than rote memorisation. I tailor each lesson to the student’s needs and learning style, using visual aids, interactive discussions, and real-world examples to bring biological and environmental concepts to life. I also help students build strong exam and essay-writing techniques through targeted practice and feedback. Lesson Length: Typical sessions last 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the student’s goals and availability. Longer or shorter lessons can be arranged upon request. Qualifications and Experience: I am a DPhil (PhD) candidate in Biology at the University of Oxford, with several years of experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and A-level students. I have a strong background in ecology, environmental science, and molecular biology, and I also provide academic proofreading and writing support for essays, lab reports, and dissertations. Who My Lessons Are For: I teach GCSE, A-level, IB, undergraduate, and adult learners interested in Biology or Environmental Science. I also support students who need help with academic writing, research projects, or university applications related to the life sciences.
