About Elyssa

I'm a mechanical engineering graduate from McMaster University but I always say that despite all the math and physics, language has always been my first love. Over the years, I've developed over 200 pages of French exercises that have been tried and tested on my students, and I'm looking forward to publishing them as a workbook.

With over 10 years of experience working with students, I've become familiar with the places where students tend to struggle most, including verb tenses and grammar, and I've spent years addressing these common issues directly.

I know it can be difficult to build the confidence to speak a new language, and I aim to create a patient learning environment where my students feel comfortable to practice and make mistakes without any judgment, eventually achieving fluency.

Outside of tutoring, I'm passionate about reading, writing, and creative work, which continues to shape how I teach language and communication.

About the lesson

My focus is on understanding how each student thinks and adapting my approach to their individual learning style and pace. This allows me to target gaps in understanding directly and create personalized lesson plans instead of relying on one-size-fits-all instruction.

Lessons are structured but flexible, and a typical lesson incorporates a combination of grammar, speaking, writing, and reading in a way that feels natural and immersive (as far as the student is comfortable). I place heavy emphasis on grammar and sentence structure to build a solid foundation in French communication.

I work with all levels of learners, including beginners, immersion students, and advanced learners looking to refine their mastery of French grammar and syntax. Let's start practicing!
