About Pauline

Hi! I'm Pauline and I have a French mom and an American dad. Growing up, I was frequently going back and forth between France and the States, which gave me the drive to share the beauty of French language and culture through teaching.

Although I grew up speaking French with my mom, I dove into more French history, grammar and writing by earning my undergraduate degree in French at Benedictine College. My second major was Secondary Education. These majors gave me the opportunity to explore numerous, hands-on experiences in teaching and tutoring. I was a French tutor for my classmates on my college campus, I tutored middle schoolers at an alternative school and I student-taught four levels of French full-time at a High School. After college I taught French to young children ages 1-5 in a Montessori School, and now I am turning my focus to working with High School and College students. I just wrapped up the school year with my first High School student, who went from failing French to a B in five weeks of working together!

This experience really awakened my passion for sharing French language and culture with teens and young adults- to encourage them and fill them with the confidence they need to succeed. The one-on-one aspect of tutoring is, in my opinion, the most effective way to learn a language. It provides every student the attention they deserve, as well as the learning methods most suited for their needs.

About the lesson

I believe the beauty of one-on-one tutoring is that each lesson can be as unique as the student who is learning from them. I do not think that one size fits all when it comes to learning. My hope as your tutor is that I can first get to know your preferred learning methods, (whether you are more visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.) and pair that with what interests you most about the subject, to create a perfectly tailored lesson- just for you!

Studies show that repetition creates new pathways in your brain and helps new concepts to stick. Repetition is especially important when learning a whole new language! I like to be creative in my use of repetition for learning, whether that is through listening to songs, watching videos, writing or reciting. And of course, we will use whatever repetition tool is working best for you!

I also find that some students need more small breaks or movement to improve focus. I hope to keep the communication open and honest so that you can let me know what you need to reach your highest LEARNING potential!
