About the Lessons & Teaching Approach
I offer a structured, jargon-free approach to mastering oil painting from the ground up. My teaching method breaks down complex artistic principles into clear, actionable techniques. We will focus on practical color theory, understanding light wavelengths and pigments, and choosing the right paint grades without wasting money on unnecessary supplies. Instead of relying on pre-packaged paint sets, I show you how to curate a lean, budget-friendly 10 tube palette to mix any color you need with confidence.
Typical Lesson Plan & Structure
-Foundation & Materials: We begin by demystifying the physical tools, exploring pigment types, selecting essential whites, and setting up a practical palette.
-Color Theory & Mixing: You’ll learn how primary pigments and light absorption interact, enabling you to mix rich, vibrant colors effortlessly instead of muddy tones.
-Hands-On Application: Through guided step-by-step exercises, you’ll apply these core fundamentals to build a strong foundation for creating expressive, lasting artwork.

As an experienced instructor, owner and operator of a fine art business, and BFA graduate in traditional oil painting, I bring a unique, practical perspective to materials and technique. I will teach you how to choose quality tools so that you can approach and control your medium intentionally. My goal is to save you money, strip away the intimidation, and give you complete control over the medium.

Jack is such a wonderful teacher! He is not only extremely knowledgeable but the passion she has for the craft comes off in how he teaches. She breaks down artistic fundamentals and techniques into understandable exercises with really clear areas of focus, and he makes the process a ton of fun. You can tell how much he enjoys learning by how she teaches, it makes for a great tutoring experience that makes me excited to come back!
We met at Fremont market and talked about their art practice for a while, and Jack was kind enough to show me the basics. Their teaching methods really helped me learn the basics of oil painting in a way I could grasp.
