About Joao
My name is João! I’m a passionate guitarist, singer-songwriter, drummer and seasoned performer from São Paulo, Brazil. I have been playing since 2010 with intensive studies in various musical disciplines at Escola de Musica e Tecnologia in São Paulo, Brazil, where I'm from, and eventually, the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts. As an educator since 2017, I have dedicated myself to cultivating the talents of aspiring musicians and artists in guitar, vocals, bass, basic keyboard and drumming and the art of songwriting. My approach to teaching is shaped by a rich educational background, including a scholarship-aided tenure at Berklee from 2018 to 2023, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in songwriting and a minor in philosophy. The Berklee experience was not just about academic excellence; it was a transformative era that saw me refining my craft under the tutelage of musical luminaries such as Bruno Tessele and Fabio Marrone, who have inspired my own teaching and artistic philosophy. The relationships formed during these formative years have been instrumental in my development, not only did I have the fortune of learning from the best, but I also met my producer, Fernando Tavares, and a host of talented musicians who now contribute to my personal music projects. Today I share my music through all streaming services, live concerts and by teaching, which I love so much and is an integral part of my life! Let's learn and grow musically together!

I teach all levels of guitar players and singers! I also work with people who are starting their journey on bass, piano and drums! I am sure I have something to bring to the table to a lot of people's music. I believe in always approaching and understanding the essentials many times, to have them deeply ingrained in you. That is how the artistic mind takes over and shuts off the logical mind, once you have internalized the simple concepts! All my students love the way I approach more complicated concepts and make them digestible, finding ways to apply the students' own imagination and artistry to their studies. I teach online through zoom and in person lessons at my home in Los Angeles (free parking and an acoustic drumset!) My main focus is having students find their own identity on the instrument. How to play, sing and write songs, truly understanding them, so you have even more fun :)
