If you are looking to understand why and how classical compositions are the way they are, or wanting to improve your compositional skills, then this lesson is for you!
To go in-depth into Western Classical music, we will explore:
- Genres of musical compositions of each time period and their function in society. (e.g. How is Minuet different from Waltz?)
- Doing Counterpoint and 4-part Harmony practices and receiving feedback. These skills are the foundation for Western Classical music composition.
- Composition Analysis: examining the structure, composition, orchestration/instrumentation of canonical works.
A solid grasp of these 3 aspects will enable one to gain a deeper understanding of Western Classical music, and better appreciate the artistry in these compositions.
