About Carlyn

Hi! I am a student at UC Berkeley who grew up in Los Angeles. My goal is to get my MD/PhD and become a Medical Scientist Physician in the neuro field.
I am also passionate about making the process of education less overwhelming. As a student, I often felt intimidated by the intense college courses and AP classes I took. However, I learned the best method to success in these classes and gained admission into top universities such as UC Berkeley. My mission is to pass down strategies of studying, learning material, and overall success that took me my whole high school career to learn about.
Not only am I passionate about making learning difficult subjects less intimidating, I am also passionate about helping students get a fair chance into university with guidance. I gained a large amount of experience as a college admissions counselor at Matriculate and would love to share the secrets to college admissions that I learned during my time there.
I am also currently a research assistant at a biology based research lab at UCSF where we find inhibitor based treatments of leukemia and other forms of blood cancers, something which I am very interested in for my career in the future.

About the lesson

Hello! I am a pre-med student at UC Berkeley majoring in chemistry and have experience with 12 AP classes as well as countless college classes including those I am currently taking.

I teach middle school, high school, and college students in subjects including Chemistry, Math, Biology, and English.

I graduated high school after taking these AP courses with a 3.9 unweighted and a 4.4 weighted GPA and currently have a 3.8 GPA at UC Berkeley (only receiving A and A- grades). Therefore I am very familiar with study strategies and ways to maximize your grade.

I am also a college admissions counselor at a college admission prep program called Matriculate and therefore know the best approach to an acceptance to university.

My teaching method is to first ensure understanding by explaining the material as simple as possible. Afterward, I will go more into depth by going over details in the content as well as doing practice problems. If we are preparing for a test I will also go over practice tests/practice problems in a test format.

My experience as a student sets me apart as a tutor through the journey I underwent to find the best strategies for me to succeed as a student myself. Developing my current strategy took me from when I took my first AP class in 2019 to now. Therefore, I understand how it feels to struggle or feel lost in the material, but I also now know how to overcome these struggles.
