About Ivan
Nice to meet you! My name is Ivan Alvarado, I’m 24 years old, and I was born and raised in the Los Angeles, California, USA. I am currently living in Shenzhen, China, where I am working as a Foreign English Teacher at a public school.
If you're like me, you've probably struggled in you're journey to learn a new language. You worry about making mistakes, making a fool of yourself, or simply feel intimidated to go up to strangers and chat. As a recent learner of a foreign language too, I know first hand how nerve wracking and anxiety inducing practicing can be! My hope is that I can give you the tips and tricks you need to get out there into the world and practice your speaking ability. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be willing to try. And I'm confident that together, we can take your English to the next level!
When not teaching or tutoring, I love my spending my free time in various ways! Some of my top hobbies include:

As a recent learner of Mandarin Chinese, I know how hard it can be to learn a new language. It is my belief that if learning a language isn't fun, then why learn at all?!
My lessons are perfect for you if you are a non-native speaker struggling with essay writing, native conversation skills, or English grammar and pronunciation. I am a native speaker of both English and Spanish and have basic Mandarin conversational ability as well.
I am a Graduate from the University of California, Berkeley, with a B.A in Global Studies: Peace and Conflict and have a 120 Hour TEFL Certification. I have attained 1 year of experience as a Foreign English Teacher at a premiere public school in Shenzhen, China, along with several years of peer mentoring and training experience at my previous job as a Community Service Officer Program Coordinator.
