About Ali

I'm a UC Berkeley graduate with bachelor's degrees in Data Science and Cognitive Science, and I've spent the past several years applying analytical and problem-solving skills in professional data science roles across research, healthcare, and technology. Alongside my career, I've enjoyed tutoring students from middle school through college, helping them strengthen their understanding of math, science, statistics, and related subjects.

I believe learning is most effective when students feel comfortable asking questions and working through mistakes without judgment. I'm patient, reliable, and committed to creating a supportive environment where students can build both their skills and their confidence.

Whether we're preparing for an exam, catching up in class, or tackling challenging homework, I tailor each session to the student's individual needs and learning style. My goal is not only to help students solve today's problems but also to give them the tools and confidence to succeed independently in the future.

I take pride in being well-prepared, dependable, and invested in each student's progress. Seeing students gain confidence and realize they are capable of succeeding is the most rewarding part of tutoring for me.

About the lesson

Hi! I'm Ali, a UC Berkeley graduate with degrees in Data Science and Cognitive Science and several years of experience working as both a professional data scientist and tutor. I've worked with middle school, high school, and college students in subjects including math, science, statistics, and introductory programming.

My goal as a tutor is to help students build confidence, not just improve their grades. I know that many students struggle because they have been told they are "not a math person" or because concepts were introduced too quickly. I believe every student can succeed with the right support and an approach that matches the way they learn.

During each lesson, I start by understanding what the student already knows and where they are getting stuck. From there, I break challenging concepts into smaller, manageable steps and encourage students to explain their thinking so we can identify and correct misunderstandings together. I like to use real examples, visual explanations, and guided practice to help students truly understand the material instead of simply memorizing formulas.

Every tutoring session is tailored to the student's goals, whether that means preparing for an upcoming exam, completing homework, strengthening foundational skills, or getting ahead in class. I adjust my teaching style to each student's learning pace and make sure they leave every lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived.

What sets me apart is my combination of teaching experience and real-world industry experience. As a data scientist, I used math, statistics, and problem-solving every day, which allows me to connect classroom concepts to practical applications. More importantly, I genuinely enjoy helping students overcome challenges and develop the confidence to become independent learners.
