About Lucy

With more than 8 years of tutoring experience and a MSc in Mathematics and Machine Learning, I bring both academic depth and practical insight into my teaching. My focus lies in competitive mathematics, especially number theory, combinatorics, and functional equations. These fields challenge students to think critically and creatively, and I guide them towards mastery through exploration and practice. I have trained students for international olympiads and advanced competitions, ensuring they are equipped with both techniques and confidence. My teaching style is holistic, aiming to connect concepts rather than treat them in isolation. I emphasise problem-solving strategies that reveal patterns and connections often hidden at first glance. My sessions involve analysing solutions in detail, exploring multiple methods, and reflecting on why certain approaches are more effective. I believe unconventional ideas often lead to the most elegant solutions. Encouraging students to think differently and take risks in mathematics is part of my philosophy. Rote practice is never enough; true growth comes from insight and creativity. I help learners balance accuracy with imagination and persistence with curiosity. Mathematics, in my view, is not only about solving problems but also about appreciating beauty in reasoning. Ultimately, I want to inspire a lasting love for mathematical challenges and help each student achieve their fullest problem-solving potential.

About the lesson

I teach maths with a focus on making problem-solving both clear and efficient. My lessons always balance accuracy with speed. Mental maths, quick estimation, and calculation techniques form a big part of my teaching. These methods help learners save time and improve confidence in high-pressure situations. I also provide systematic strategies for solving complex problems step by step. At the same time, I introduce quick hacks and creative approaches for tricky questions. This combination makes learning flexible and enjoyable. I have supported students in engineering-related fields and those working with data, giving them tools to succeed in numerical challenges. I believe consistent feedback is essential, so I make sure students know their strengths and what they can improve. Over time, this builds resilience and confidence. My teaching also emphasises real-world application, not just exam success. Together, we work on boosting speed, accuracy, and problem-solving skills. The aim is to help every learner strengthen their mental maths and succeed with confidence.
