About Jade

I have been tutoring since I started my Teaching Degree in 2011. It was a good way for the shy teacher that I was to practice and develop my teaching abilities. In all my years as a tutor, I've been mostly teaching students from Elementary School but I had some High School students and adults too. I loved watching them all flourish and become better during my time with them.

About the lesson

Hello future students,

I'm Jade, a French Canadian teacher living in Québec. I graduated from UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal, Montréal, Canada) in 2015 with a Bachelor in Teaching French as a Second Language. Since then, I traveled a lot and I even lived in Australia for a year and New Zealand for almost two. Those years living in English speaking countries helped me understand better the process of using a second language in my day to day life. As a French native speaker, it is important for me to put myself through the learning process of a new language. At the moment, I am trying to learn Welsh since my husband is from Wales, United Kingdom. I am also helping him learn French. In my experience, learning a second (or third, or fourth!) language works better when you have a native speaker helping you. Communicative abilities are at the forefront of my teaching technique. One of the reason someone wants to learn a language is often (if not all the time) because they want to talk to someone in that language. This is why I focus more on this ability than the others at first. The speed a student learns depends always on the effort and work he/she will put in his/her learning.

Since graduating from University and travelling around the world, I had teaching experiences mostly in Elementary. I can also teach in High Schools, for adults and immigrant classes (called classes d'accueil in Québec). This diversity is one of the reasons why I love teaching a second language. It is so gratifying to know I can help expend the speech abilities of a lot of students.
