About Joyce
I believe anyone can learn given the appropriate instruction by someone who cares. I have taught over 30 years, in classrooms and in private tutoring. I have found students who don't make progress are unable to focus in a large group, are not noticed by the teacher, or lack literacy background when starting school. Once someone develops a negative belief in themselves it influences the rest of their education. My goal is to show you what you can do and what you need to do next to move forward. Together we can reach your goal.

My lessons focus on what the student can do and what needs to be instructed next. I celebrate all of the incremental successes as we move forward. I feel this is a joint venture. We usually start with a warm-up and review of previously taught information. Next, we move to the next process or item of need, breaking it down piece by piece, until the student understands why and how it works. Then practice working toward mastery. Finally, we review all that we have done and set a goal for the following class as well as possible practice the student could engage in between classes. I try to tailor the class content to student interests and provide choice, if possible, to encourage student engagement.
