About Hanif
I am a Malaysian currently studying BSc Data Science at the London School of Economics (LSE). My passion for mathematics and programming led me to this choice, as I love tackling complex problems and discovering elegant solutions. In my studies, I am faced with rigorous mathematical reasoning, similar to the challenges I encountered during my years of participating in Mathematical Olympiads.
I have been involved in Mathematical Olympiad competitions since I was 15, earning multiple awards, such as the Gold Award in the American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) 2018 and the Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) 2019. These experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for problem-solving and analytical thinking, which I now bring into my tutoring.
Recently, I had the privilege of teaching a group of students preparing for the MRSM-IMONST (MRSM International Mathematical Olympiad National Selection Test). Watching all my students succeed, including one team winning the championship, was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. It was a proud moment to see my teaching make a difference in their mathematical journey.
While I understand that Mathematical Olympiads and A-Level Mathematics differ—Olympiads require creative problem-solving without a formal syllabus, whereas A-Levels are more about applying learned concepts—I believe that my approach, which focuses on breaking down complex problems and truly understanding the underlying concepts, can help A-Level students not only improve their grades but also build a genuine interest in mathematics.
I am excited to share my knowledge and passion for maths, guiding students to build their confidence and excel. Whether you’re looking to boost your understanding or aiming for top grades, I’m here to help you every step of the way.

Receive Mathematics and Further Mathematics lessons from a 'Top-in-the-world' CAIE award recipient for AS Mathematics, and A* for both Mathematics and Further Mathematics in CAIE A-Levels.
My Approach to Tutoring:
My tutoring approach focuses on decomposing complex problems into smaller, simpler steps. This helps students understand the thought process behind solving challenging questions. I believe in the power of practice; therefore, my lessons emphasize applying concepts through problem-solving rather than just learning the theory. As we work through questions, I will explain the relevant theories, ensuring students understand the 'why' behind each step.
Typical Lesson Structure:
A typical lesson is 1-2 hours long, with short breaks every 30 minutes to keep the student focused and engaged. I start with practice questions and weave in the necessary concepts as we progress, so students learn how to actively apply their knowledge.
Who My Lessons Are For:
I provide lessons for A-Level students, particularly those studying Maths or Further Maths. My sessions are designed for students aged 16-18, whether they need help building confidence in the subject or want to excel and achieve top grades. I encourage active participation from my students, as it allows me to gauge their understanding and tailor my approach accordingly.
