About Laura
Ms. Laura Leon is a Cuban coloratura soprano acclaimed for her portrayal of the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. In December 2024 she portrayed the role with Florida Grand Opera and Opera News praised her as “a rare dramatic coloratura,” highlighting her “impressive range—from a solid mid-range to plush high notes—and impeccable technique, with spot-on roulades and dazzling staccatos.” Critic Robert Croan noted that her performance of the second-act aria “almost stopped the show.” She is also celebrated for her performance of all four heroines in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann, most recently with Opera Louisiane and Opera Orlando—an exceptional feat demonstrating her vocal versatility and dramatic command. Recent world premieres include Rose in The Factotum with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Dulcinea in La Ruta de Don Quijote with Camerata Antonio Soler in Spain, Ana Maria in the orchestrated premiere of Zorro with Opera Southwest, and La Catrina in El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego with Opera Omaha. Other notable roles include Adina in L’elisir d’amore with Opera in Williamsburg, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with On Site Opera, Christina Kahlo in Frida with Opera Southwest and El Paso Opera, Norina in Don Pasquale, Amore in Orfeo ed Eurydice, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Musetta in La Bohème, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Adele in Die Fledermaus and Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor. Ms. Leon is passionate about innovative productions and is especially committed to works that amplify Latino voices and explore themes of immigration and cultural identity in the United States. My Teaching Philosophy: As a teacher, I have dedicated my life to helping students discover and embrace their natural voice. I’m passionate about understanding vocal technique — how it works, how it feels, and how to make it effortless and free. When I was growing up, I didn’t have an easy upper range. I had to work hard and explore deeply to find the technique that would unlock those high notes. That journey shaped me into the coloratura soprano I am today — and it’s what fuels my passion for teaching. Because I know what it feels like to struggle and overcome, I approach every lesson with empathy and precision. My goal is to help each student achieve their vocal dreams with ease, freedom, and without tension, no matter their level or style.

In my studio, my goal is to help you discover your unique sound — the qualities that make your voice unlike anyone else’s. I believe that with perseverance, curiosity, and kindness, we can achieve anything we set our minds to. My mission is to empower every student to become the best version of themselves, both as artists and as individuals. I offer lessons in English and Spanish for singers of all levels — from those singing purely for joy, to university and graduate students, to professionals pursuing performance careers. My specialty is bel canto (opera), yet I have also spent over a decade working with pop and musical theater singers, developing a healthy, sustainable technique adaptable to any style. Every student is unique, with their own goals and challenges. Whether you’re preparing for audition season, learning a new role, performing in a band, or simply wondering if you can sing at all, I tailor each lesson to your specific needs and aspirations. Each year, I host student concerts, offering a supportive space to perform, grow, and celebrate your progress. If you’d like to join one of these performances, I’d be delighted to have you share your voice with us.

Laura is an incredible vocal teacher. Her personality, her energy, and the way she teaches are just on another level. She’s an amazing singer and an even more amazing instructor — the way she explains things, breaks down the details, and guides you through every step just clicks. I’ve never seen this kind of improvement with any other teacher, and I’ve worked with several. I truly recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their singing — whether you’re just starting or you’ve been doing it for years. Time with Laura is inspiring, fun, and transformative. I genuinely enjoy every single class with her!
I started taking voice lessons for fun, Im 58 years old, and thanks to Ms. Leon, I have had several solos at church, and starred in then musical Cabaret in my community theater. She makes me feel confident and ready, it goes to show, its never too late to start your music career.
My son absolutely loves Laura, he is getting ready for audition season right now, he is currently studying to be featured in Aladdin kids as Aladdin and I couldn’t be prouder of his musical growth!!! Soon I’ll put my daughter with her as well. We love Laura. Thank you!
