About Zoe
Zoe Black is an award-winning filmmaker based in London. Their latest narrative short, Queer & Confused, had its World Premiere at BFI Flare 2026. The film explores friendship and gender identity against the backdrop of 1980s London, and is currently being adapted into a feature-length project. Zoe’s previous work includes the short documentary GIRLY, a joyful essay on queer femininity which has screened at festivals around the world. It won Best Documentary Short Film at QueerCineMad 2024, a Goya Award qualifying selection. As a writer Zoe has a flair for relationship-driven comedies and dramas, and the pitch for their feature project MOLL - inspired by the crossdressing 17th-century pickpocket Moll Cutpurse - won First Prize at B3 HessenLab 2024. Their work has screened at BFI Southbank, Tate Modern and the Marché du Film in Cannes.
Zoe holds an MFA in Film & TV Production from the University of Southern California and a BA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge. They currently lecture at Central Film School and Ravensbourne University.

I work as a lecturer in screenwriting at Central Film School and Ravensbourne University. I will provide a bespoke lesson plan based on your needs, and I am able to guide you through the process of idea development, outlining, writing and rewriting. This can include an introduction to the basics of screenplay formatting, or I can help iron out specifics such as character arcs or treatment materials to be sent out to potential collaborators.
I will help you create a writing plan with deadlines to hit based on the amount of time you have to write. I am also available for individual problem-solving sessions and specialise in structure. Lessons will typically be an hour long and can happen online or in person.
