About Karann

Ever since my teenage years, I discovered a passion for teaching. I used to help my friends with topics they didn’t fully understand from their lecturers, and they always enjoyed learning with me. I loved being able to guide them and explain concepts in a way that made sense, and over time I realized that teaching is something I genuinely enjoy and am good at.

I completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering and worked full-time for eight years. During that time, I realized that my true passion lies in mathematics, coding, and statistics, which led me to return to university to pursue a BSc in Computer Science and Statistics. This journey has strengthened my appreciation for building a solid foundation in these subjects and fuels my enthusiasm for helping students succeed.

I strongly believe that establishing a strong foundation in math and coding from an early age is crucial. I was fortunate to have excellent tutors in my own learning journey, which helped me achieve success in mathematics, statistics, and coding, and I aim to provide the same support and clarity to my students.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy running, cycling, and coding in my free time, which keeps me energetic, focused, and creative. My approach to teaching is patient, structured, and supportive, helping students feel confident while developing strong problem-solving and practical skills.

About the lesson

I teach Math, Algebra, Statistics, Discrete Math, and Python coding using a clear, structured methodology. My approach includes:
• Going through each topic carefully and making its concepts easy to understand so students build a strong foundation.
• Working through past exam questions to ensure students practice exam-style problems, strengthen problem-solving skills, and improve outcomes.
• Applying real-world examples to make abstract concepts more practical, engaging, and memorable.

I can teach online or in-person using a drawing board on my tablet for interactive explanations.

Typical lessons last one hour, providing focused and productive sessions without overwhelming students.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering – University of Auckland
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Level 6) – Western Institute of Technology, Taranaki
• Currently studying BSc Computer Science & Statistics – University of Canterbury
• Experience tutoring first- and second-year university students in Math and Physics
Who are the lessons for:
• High school students (Years 9–13) looking to strengthen their Math, Algebra, Statistics, or Discrete Math skills
• Beginners and intermediate students interested in learning Python coding
