About Vaidehi

I am a dedicated, NZ-registered teacher with strong experience in science and primary relief teaching, known for creating calm, inclusive classrooms and supporting diverse learners with empathy, adaptability, and passion. I firmly believe that students will learn when I create interesting content, thus my teaching philosophy consists of interactive models.

About the lesson

• I create a warm, supportive environment where every ākonga feels confident to explore mathematical ideas.
• I follow the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach to deepen understanding—starting with hands-on materials, moving to visual models, and finally introducing abstract symbols.
• I use scaffolding to guide learners step by step, modelling thinking, breaking tasks into small parts, and gradually releasing support as independence grows.
• I encourage rich mathematical talk, inviting students to explain strategies, justify reasoning, and compare different solution paths, building confidence and clarity.
• I integrate digital tools such as interactive apps, simulations, and practice platforms to enhance engagement and provide immediate feedback.
• I use differentiation to meet diverse learning needs by offering:
• enriched tasks for advanced learners,
• scaffolded worksheets for support,
• visual aids for ESOL students,
• hands-on tasks for kinaesthetic learners.
• I connect mathematical concepts to real-life situations, helping students see maths in measurement, shopping, buildings, nature, and everyday decisions.
• I cultivate a strong growth mindset, celebrating effort, persistence, and strategy rather than focusing only on correct answers.
• I treat mistakes as valuable learning moments, encouraging learners to reflect, revise, and try again with confidence.
• I maintain calm, consistent routines and clear expectations to create a positive learning atmosphere where students feel safe to take risks.
• I use formative assessments—quick checks, talk moves, mini whiteboards, exit slips—to understand students’ progress and adjust teaching responsively.
• I design learning that nurtures curiosity, problem-solving skills, and independent thinking so students develop both competence and joy in mathematics.
• I blend structure with creativity, ensuring each lesson offers clarity, challenge, and opportunities for every learner to succeed.
• My practice stays flexible, reflective, and student-centred, allowing learners to move steadily from understanding to mastery.
