About Mia

I am an artist and arts educator based in Liverpool.
I currently work as an Art & Design Lecturer at a local college, where I course-lead the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma, supporting students as they make the transition to university. I have extensive experience teaching a broad range of practical skills, including painting, drawing, life drawing, ceramics, exhibition processes and curation, across Levels 1–3 through to HNC.

I graduated with distinction from my PGCE in Further Education and Training in 2021. Over the past five years, I have passionately encouraged learners to try everything: to test out ideas, take creative risks and make mistakes, fostering the belief that there is no such thing as a ‘bad idea’.

Alongside teaching, I am a practising artist whose subject matter ranges from figurative work to still-life painting. Since graduating with a Master’s degree in Fine Art, I have exhibited internationally, and my work is held in private collections in London, New York and Norway.

About the lesson

I provide personalised online mentoring for art and design students, university applicants and emerging artists. I work with people across a range of ages and experience levels, with a particular focus on students aged 14+ and artists looking to develop their own independent creative practice.

My mentoring is supportive, student-led and exploratory. I encourage experimentation, self-expression and the development of a distinctive creative voice, while helping students build confidence in their ideas and decision-making. My approach places equal value on curiosity, play, critical thinking and technical development, with an emphasis on discovering and refining a meaningful creative process.

I can help with:
- GCSE & A-level sketchbooks
* Portfolio development and refinement
* BA and university application preparation, including personal statements
* Developing critical thinking and engaging with contemporary art practice
* Coursework, project development and written work
* Building traditional skills alongside mixed-media and experimental approaches

* Colour, composition and visual language
* Experimentation, play and process-led practice
* Journalling, self-expression and reflective development
