About Verla
Teaching French has occupied my full-time schedule for 5 years after I finished my Artist Diploma in Vocal Studies at the Eastman School of Music. I work with 176 students who want to bridge the gap between textbook grammar and actual speech.
My approach is direct. Fluency requires a grasp of listening practice, conversational fluency, and writing skills.
I emphasize accent and intonation, cultural context, and vocabulary building. We also focus on role play and dialogue practice to master liaison and nasal sounds plus verb conjugation. It is a joy to see students finally connect with the melody of the language.

Many learners struggle to mimic the soft rhythm of French because their mouths are not used to the specific tongue placement. Imagine the crisp sound of a proper nasal vowel ringing through the room during our first session. This is the foundation I provide to help you speak with natural confidence and ease. I offer recorded pronunciation drills for daily practice to keep your momentum going between our meetings.
My background in vocal studies allows me to provide deep insights into the physical mechanics of speech. You will find that my lessons focus on clarity above all else. This process is rewarding for both of us as you start to hear the difference in your own recordings. I enjoy seeing the moment when a difficult phrase suddenly becomes simple to articulate.
