About Danielle

I’m Danielle, a PhD researcher in History of Art at the University of Birmingham (AHRC/Midlands4Cities-funded) and a Teaching Assistant with experience leading seminars, supporting marking, and delivering lectures. I’ve taught art history methods and first-year core modules, and I’ve also delivered invited talks beyond the UK (most recently a guest lecture for TU Delft on architecture, memory, and survival).

I am a specialist in Middle Eastern and Islamic Art. But I have also taught and am interested in British and European art (My MA was on British Feminist art making).

I’m also active beyond the classroom: I’m a published writer, I’ve curated research-led projects, and I’ve worked in gallery settings with exhibitions and archives. In other words, I bring both academic rigour and “real art-world” experience to the way I teach.

I tutor A-level (AQA/OCR), undergraduate and MA students, focusing on visual analysis, essay structure, working with texts, and dissertation planning. I also offer art history sessions for non-specialists-guided, discussion-based lessons that help you feel more confident in museums and exhibitions, tailored to what you’re curious about.

I’m a PhD researcher in Art History and a university teaching assistant with experience delivering lectures and leading seminars. My tutoring is structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s goals, whether you’re preparing for exams, improving academic writing, or exploring art history for personal interest.

How I teach (method + techniques)
I combine close visual analysis with clear, step-by-step writing support. In practice, this means learning how to look carefully at artworks, identify what matters (material, form, composition, context), and translate that understanding into strong, well-evidenced arguments. For exam and coursework students, we work directly with past questions, set texts, and mark-scheme language to build confidence and improve results. I prioritise clarity, organisation, and independent thinking, so you leave sessions knowing exactly how to apply the method on your own.

Typical lesson length
Most lessons are 60 minutes. I also offer 90-minute sessions for dissertation planning, intensive essay work, or when you would like extra time for discussion and feedback.

Who lessons are for
• A-level Art History (AQA/OCR): visual analysis, comparisons, essay structure, exam technique
• Undergraduate (BA): essay planning, reading strategies, argument-building, academic writing conventions
• MA: proposal development, literature review structure, dissertation planning and refinement
• Adult learners / non-specialists: art appreciation sessions designed as accessible mini-lectures and guided discussions (artists, movements, exhibitions), tailored to your interests

If you’d like, you can tell me what you’re studying (and which exam board, if relevant) and we’ll shape a plan that fits your timeline and aims.
