About Theresa

About Me – Art & Design Portfolio Specialist

I am a highly experienced and passionate Art & Design educator with over 20 years of teaching experience in the UK, specialising in creative development, portfolio preparation and university admissions.

I hold a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from Swansea University and a PGCE in Secondary Education from Cardiff University. Throughout my teaching career, I have supported students in developing their artistic abilities, exploring their creativity and building the confidence to pursue further education in Art & Design.

My specialist area is guiding students through the preparation of portfolios for university applications, including Fine Art, Graphic Design, Fashion, Illustration, Photography and related creative disciplines.

I believe a successful portfolio should demonstrate much more than technical skill. It should tell the story of a student's creative journey, showcasing their research, experimentation, critical thinking, personal development and individuality.

My teaching approach is professional, encouraging and tailored to each student's strengths, ambitions and chosen university courses. I provide clear guidance, constructive feedback and practical strategies to help students present their work confidently and prepare effectively for university interviews.

My goal is not simply to help students create an impressive portfolio, but to develop confident, independent and thoughtful young artists and designers who are ready for the next stage of their creative education.

My Approach to Teaching

With over 20 years of experience teaching Art & Design in the UK, I offer a personalised, supportive and structured approach to helping students develop their creative skills and prepare outstanding portfolios for university applications.

Teaching Methodology

My lessons focus on the creative journey, encouraging students to explore ideas, research artistic influences, experiment with materials and techniques, and develop original outcomes. I provide constructive feedback, practical demonstrations and individual guidance, helping students build confidence, independence and a strong personal artistic identity.

For university applicants, I focus on portfolio development, presentation, meeting university-specific requirements and preparing students to confidently discuss their work during interviews.

Lesson Structure

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, with the option of longer sessions for intensive portfolio development. Each lesson is tailored to the student's abilities, creative interests and individual goals.

Qualifications & Experience

I hold a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from Swansea University and a PGCE in Secondary Education from Cardiff University, supported by over 20 years of UK Art & Design teaching experience.

Who Are My Lessons For?

I specialise in teaching students aged 16+, including GCSE and A-Level Art & Design students, Foundation Art & Design applicants and those preparing portfolios for undergraduate creative courses.

My aim is to help every student develop their own creative voice and produce a portfolio that showcases their abilities, originality and potential.
