About Ian

Hi, I'm Ian, an Applied Mathematics and Computer Science graduate with a genuine passion for helping beginners build a strong foundation in maths and programming. I understand that starting out in these subjects can feel overwhelming, whether you're a young student wrestling with numbers for the first time or someone taking their first steps into the world of coding.

My academic background gives me a solid grasp of both the theoretical and practical sides of these subjects, and I bring that knowledge into every lesson in a way that's clear, structured, and easy to follow. I believe good tutoring isn't just about knowing the material, it's about knowing how to explain it patiently, adapt to each student's pace, and create a supportive environment where mistakes are simply part of learning.

I'm comfortable and experienced working with kids, and I take pride in making maths and programming feel approachable rather than intimidating. My goal with every student is simple: build genuine understanding and confidence that lasts well beyond our lessons together.

About the lesson

I'm an Applied Mathematics and Computer Science graduate with a passion for making both subjects approachable, especially for those just starting out. My teaching philosophy centers on breaking complex ideas into small, manageable building blocks, rather than rushing through material, I make sure each concept is genuinely understood before moving on.

My Methodology

For maths, I focus on building strong fundamentals through practical examples and step-by-step problem-solving, helping students see the logic behind formulas rather than just memorizing them. For programming, I use a hands-on approach where students write and run real code from their very first lesson, learning by doing rather than just reading theory. I keep sessions interactive, patient, and encouraging, adjusting my pace to match how each student learns best.

Lesson Structure

Lessons run up to a maximum of 2 hours, structured to include a mix of explanation, guided practice, and independent problem-solving, with regular check-ins to make sure concepts are sticking before we move forward.

My lessons are designed for beginners of all ages, including kids, who are just starting their journey in mathematics or computer programming.
