About Shane
I have a Ph.D. in Philosophy with areas of specialization in Normative Ethics and Philosophy of Mind. My dissertation work and research is centered on their intersection in relation to Autonomy. I also have areas of competence in Applied Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy (especially areas surrounding social justice and civic engagement), Metaphysics, and Feminist Philosophy. I have over8 years of experience teaching at the university level at both the University of Nebraska and Southeast Community College.

My teaching style is primarily derived from the Socratic Method. I utilize flipped classroom activities and discussion to develop student understanding of a topic. With groups I prefer starting the conversation with think-pair-share exercises, which I then use to develop discussion and debate among students. In individual sessions I tend to utilize a mix of questioning and mini-lectures to develop ideas and explore concepts with the student.
