About Alexandre

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been teaching French for the past four months to students aged from 9 to 16.
Before that, in France, I have been teaching different subjects such as maths, english, drums and percussions, guitar, to people aged from 7 to 65 (true story)
I have worked for 8 months with a mentally handicaped child to help him with his homework because both his parents were deficient as well.

Yes, I have.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I went to the ICR (Catholic Institute of Rennes) for 3 years after my baccalaurÃ©at in France.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

One of my student is in year10, we started to work together 2 months ago, and after 3 lessons, she had an A at her oral exam, whereas she had previously had a D.

About the lesson

Hello, I am Alex. I am 21 and French. I am from Rennes, in Brittany. I currently teach French as a language assistant in a college in Milnrow.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach French, which includes grammar, conjugation, pronunciation, and speaking in general.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a English degree (3 years) from the ICR (Catholic Institute of Rennes) with merit
I have a BaccalaurÃ©at S (Science) with merit

- How much do you charge?

I charge £12/hour, wherever you live, no matter how old you are, or what you need.

- Where do you teach?

I always go to my students' home, I think it is better for them to work in a place they already know, and it is less tiring for them if they don't have to spend 20mins on the bus or the tram to go to their French lesson; less fatigue, more efficiency!

- When are you available?

Monday (Lundi) : from 5pm until 9pm
Tuesday (Mardi) : all afternoon until 9pm
Wednesday (Mercredi) : from 5pm to 8pm
Thursday (Jeudi) : from 5pm to 9pm
Friday : all afternoon until pm
Saturday : morning, 10am-12

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am French, and I have English degree, so I can teach all students from yr7 to university.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

In my college, I prepare my students for the GCSE and the AS level

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I can send lessons and exercises by e-mail, and correct them (with of course additionnal explanations if needed) ; for the speaking, we can use Skype, even if it is less good than face-to-face conversation

- Do you have a personal message for students?

You have to realize that you can learn everytime, everywhere : culture sourrounds us (did you know that David Guetta and Daft Punk were French?) and fun may be a good way to learn :
for instance, you can watch French movies, or you can watch movies you already know (if you feel a bit weak) in French, with FRENCH SUBTITLES (never watch something in French with English subtitles) such as Harry Potter.
Good French movies to watch (not too difficult to understand, and funny) : Asterix Mission ClÃ©opÃ¢tre, AstÃ©rix contre CÃ©sar, Intouchables, Arthur et les minimoys (maybe your children now this one)
You can also listen to French songs while checking the lyrics, or try ro read French comics (AstÃ©rix, Gaston Lagaffe, Iznogoud, Spirou, Tintin (which is actually Belgian) etc) or read French newspapers, or books in French: "Les Chevaliers d'Emeraude" from Anne Robillard, is quite easy to read for teenagers if you like heroic-fantasy...
