I have over three years experience tutoring part-time. Half of my experience has been in tutoring centers and the other half has been individuals like you. Most people I've taught have been out of school for a while. I have the most tutoring experience with algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Pictures are the best way to understand and remember mathematics. If the situation calls for it, I like to bring in historical context or real-life applications to better understand what motivates the use of this math.
