About Mike

I’m a professional graphic designer with years of industry experience creating thoughtful, high-quality design work across branding, print, and digital media. I’ve worked with a wide range of clients and projects, developing strong visual identities and creative solutions that communicate clearly and effectively.

Alongside my professional practice as an agency owner of 2 design/branding agencies, I’m passionate about helping others learn graphic design in a practical and supportive way. I understand that starting out can feel overwhelming, so I focus on breaking down design principles into clear, easy-to-understand steps. My goal is to help students not only learn design software, but also understand the creative thinking behind strong, effective design.

Students who work with me benefit from real-world industry insight, personalised feedback, and lessons tailored to their individual goals. Whether you want to learn the fundamentals, improve your portfolio, or develop professional-level design skills, I provide structured guidance to help you grow in confidence and ability.

I've helped develop many placement students through my agencies and have graduated with either 1st or 2nd class honours degrees. So... About the lesson

I take a practical, hands-on approach to teaching graphic design, focusing on helping students build real skills they can immediately apply to their own projects. My lessons combine clear explanations of design principles with guided practice using industry-standard tools. Rather than relying only on theory, I encourage students to learn by doing, working through exercises, analysing real-world design examples, and receiving constructive feedback to improve their work.

Each lesson is typically 60 minutes, though this can be adapted depending on the student’s needs. A typical session may include reviewing previous work, introducing a new concept or technique (such as layout, typography, colour theory, or software skills), and completing a practical design exercise together.

As an experienced graphic designer and 2x agency owner, I bring professional industry knowledge into my teaching. I’ve worked on a range of design projects and understand both the creative and technical aspects of the field. My goal is not only to teach design tools (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Figma Webflow and Unreal Engine), but also to help students develop strong visual thinking, problem-solving skills, and a professional design mindset.

My lessons are suitable for beginners, hobbyists, and aspiring designers, as well as students who want to improve specific skills. I work with teenagers and adults, and lessons can be tailored to individual goals, whether that’s learning the fundamentals of design, building a portfolio, improving software skills, or preparing for further study or freelance work.
