Mark has been a science teacher to my daughter since elementary school. Now a senior in high school, "Mr. Eastburn" remains one of her favorite teachers. Mark embodies all the qualities that make an excellent educator. He is patient, engaging, compassionate and tailors his approach in teaching based on the individual needs of that student. Beyond science, his humanitarian efforts are recognized and appreciated especially as it relates to disadvantaged and marginalized students and families in the community. As a lifelong learner, Mark continues to pursue his own education to broaden his already wide knowledge in the sciences. Mark has known my children, specifically my oldest, for about 10 years. He started out as their elementary science teacher, igniting our oldest’s interest in science. Later, Mark moved to the high school at the same time my oldest entered 9th grade, so they were reunited for biology. Since then, Mark has continued to motivate and encourage her in an inquiry-based research program. Mark has been a pivotal role model and mentor for her, and her aptitude and passion for science are no doubt attributed nearly exclusively to Mark.
