About Sherri

I hold a Doctor of Education degree from National University with a specialization in curriculum and teaching. Additionally, I have a Master of Science in Accounting from Western Governors University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from South Dakota State University.

I have been a licensed educator since 2012 and have had a diverse career. My first experience in an educator role was as a tutor in the college algebra math lab while I was an undergraduate Mathematics student. After earning my BS degree, I taught Mathematics to students in grades 5-12 before transitioning into a business role at the university for five years. When my third child was born, I ran an in-home daycare for 2 years while completing my master's degree in accounting. After completing my master's degree, I started teaching college algebra online and working as a substitute teacher at our local school. I continue to work as a substitute teacher and have also been a high school mathematics teacher. In the summers of 2022 and 2023, I served as the City of Elkton's Park and Recreation Director, overseeing a program with up to 75 students and only one student helper. In June 2024, I defended my dissertation on why veteran educators leave the education field. Additionally, I have 3 years of experience in private tutoring, working both one-on-one and in group settings. I have taught online and in-person, both internationally and domestically. In addition to my teaching experiences, I have also been a pageant director and youth mentor in our community for four years, and I have served as a religious education director and teacher for 3 years.

About the lesson

Relationship building is one of the most critical aspects of education to Dr. Sherri. As she begins working with new students, she puts a great deal of effort into truly getting to know them so she can figure out how to help them succeed.

A typical lesson begins with reviewing what was previously covered and answering any questions that may have come up since the last interaction. Next, Dr. Sherri moves on to new material. When introducing new material, she spends adequate time understanding the vocabulary to communicate using proper terms. Finally, Dr. Sherri and the student work through multiple problems using "I (Dr. Sherri) Do, We Do, You (student) Do."
