About Bernard

I am currently a 5th year medical student at UoA. I graduated from Westlake Boys High School in 2019 and am well versed in the Cambridge curriculum having achieved 4 A*'s at A Level and 5 A*'s in IGCSE. My strong suit is mathematics having won the school's Top in Mathematics award in 2019. I have always found maths particularly satisfying in high school and being a medical student it doesn't always stimulate this part of my brain and so I have been able to continue finding this satisfaction through tutoring maths since starting medicine.
Being a student on clinical placements, I am beginning to appreciate the fulfilment that comes from passing down knowledge. I have been lucky enough to come across great mentors all throughout most of my education which have shaped me into becoming the person that I am today, and I believe that it would be extremely rewarding to be able to feel like I have been able to have this sort of impact on another student's academic journey. Alongside this, I would love the opportunity to be able to build meaningful relationships with my students which will also hopefully make the learning experience enjoyable!
Outside of medicine, I enjoy keeping active by going to the gym and regular runs, reading, and spending time outdoors with friends and family. I believe being having hobbies on the side are important and with that requires efficient time management skills, which is also something I would be able to offer advice on during my lessons!

About the lesson

Lessons can be 1 hour or longer depending on what the student feels they need! They would typically start with me going through relevant class work whilst the student goes through a prepared question. I aim to structure my lessons based around the needs of the student and the learning objectives from the relevant syllabus. There is heavy emphasis on the student's goals and expectations, and each session will ultimately aim to have the student feeling more confident in their knowledge and abilities. Resources such as past papers and textbook exemplars will be able to be provided. Lessons will be interactive and prioritise understanding over rote memorisation. Alongside this I will strive to keep my students motivated and thinking positively as I also believe that mental wellbeing is also just as important as academic success!
Lessons are designed for students currently in high school currently sitting Cambridge A Levels.
I have had multiple years of experience tutoring maths for several companies since high school.
