About Darren

I scored 517 on the MCAT, including 130 in CARS (98th percentile), and I specialize in helping students improve their performance in CARS and Psychology/Sociology (Psych/Soc).

I graduated from Cape Breton University with a 4.0 GPA, earning the Governor General's Silver Medal for the highest academic average in my graduating class.

During university, I worked as a tutor, helping students from a variety of backgrounds, including those with learning disabilities and those learning English as a second language. That experience taught me that everyone learns differently, and the best tutors adapt their teaching to the student, not the other way around.

I'm an obsessive learner by nature. When something interests me, I love diving into it, figuring out how it works, and finding the most effective ways to understand and remember it. I genuinely enjoy the process of learning, whether that means breaking down a difficult concept, questioning why something works, or experimenting with different study techniques. I bring that same curiosity and enthusiasm to tutoring.

Having recently prepared for and written the MCAT myself, I understand how challenging the exam can be. Through my own preparation, I developed practical strategies for approaching CARS passages, mastering Psych/Soc content, and studying efficiently.

My goal is to make tutoring approachable, engaging, and genuinely useful. I want students to leave each session not only understanding the material better, but also becoming more confident and independent learners.

About the lesson

My approach to MCAT tutoring is practical, personalized, and focused on helping you understand not just which answer is correct, but why the other options are wrong.

For CARS, we'll work through practice passages together, identify where you're losing points, and develop strategies to improve your reading comprehension, reasoning, accuracy, and timing. I'll share the techniques that helped me score 130 (98th percentile), while adapting our sessions to your individual strengths and challenges.

For Psych/Soc, I focus on building a strong understanding of key concepts and learning how to apply them to MCAT-style questions, rather than relying on memorization alone.

A typical lesson starts with discussing what you're struggling with, followed by guided practice and a review of the reasoning behind each answer. My goal is to help you become a more confident, efficient, and consistent test-taker.

Whether you're struggling to break 125 or aiming for a 130+, we'll develop an approach that works for you.
