About Prashant

Tutor - First Class Learning
(March 2015 – Present)
I have been working as a tutor at First Class Learning since March 2015. I started by volunteering for 5 months before becoming an official tutor. As a tutor I have to teach and look after on average five students who sit on my table. My duties include, setting work for each student each week, marking and going through the specific work for each student, writing a report on the progress and behaviour several times during the year. I also help other tutors with their work if they are struggling with their work load or helping their students. I also help the centre co-coordinator with admin work on occasion.
Being a tutor to students ranging from year 2 to year 9 was a challenge at first but I was resilient and quickly became accustomed to the different problems I faced.
Becoming a tutor has really improved my communication and flexibility skills with different people and has helped me take different perspectives of how to solve problems as I must adapt my teaching and explanation style, according to each individual student. I was also awarded the best new team member award at the centre. After receiving my GCSE grades, I have been asked to become a ‘one to one’ tutor for GCSE students and I tutor students in A-Level Maths, English and all three sciences.
Following my recent appraisal, 3 words used to describe me were: punctual, reliable and organised.

About the lesson

Hi! I'm Prash, I'm a 4th-year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student at the University of Warwick (it's cooler than it sounds!). I have been a tutor since March 2015 and I really enjoy it, I hope one day to become a teacher!

I recently tutored GCSE students in Maths, English and all three Sciences. I am a diligent, reliable hard working person. I have found that because I am of a similar age to students, I am more relatable, sharing my experience and how to deal with the new GCSEs I have experienced first-hand. I am friendly and approachable, I don't just give academic help, but I help advise on university courses and A-Level choices, how to make revision notes, the best websites to learn from etc.

I have tutored students in both groups and 1-2-1. At first, I ask how the student prefers to learn, either visually or audibly. In my past experiences, I have tutored students using workbook guides going through content and questions and setting homework until the next session. I try to have an interactive role in teaching always have a whiteboard with me, doing mini quizzes and going through how to revise effectively. I try to make it as fun as possible because if you're not enjoying learning you won't take any information in. I also try to ensure that the parent has an active role and make sure that the parent knows what is going on to help their student at home when I'm not there.
