Every lesson we'll be studying short stories and excerpts from different novels, with the goal of helping your child understand and improve their English skills to better prepare them for the future.
Our lessons will last for 1 - 2 hours, depending on the year/grade level of the child. Here is the basic lesson plan.
- 15 - 30 minutes of reading a short story or excerpts from a novel.
- 30 minutes of reading comprehension
- 15 minutes of discussing ideas for creative writing.
- 20 minutes to write a short paragraph.
- 15 minute spelling test.
This will include: a recounting of the narrative and names of the characters involved, the goals of the main character, and an understanding of the world that is portrayed in the text.
They student will then be asked to write their own short story, no less than a paragraph, based on the text that they had just read.
We will then do a spelling check, followed by a small spelling test at the end of the lesson.
