About Eliza

Who am I?
- I am a 20-year-old student currently studying French (advanced), Spanish (advanced), and Italian (intermediate) at the University of Birmingham. I have a huge passion for languages and believe that they are one of the most valuable skills to achieve in life.

Experience?
- I have been volunteering at a secondary school in Spanish classes where I have supported students from ages 11-17 with their speaking, listening, and writing skills.
- In the past, I have also volunteered in a primary school where I assisted Year 4 students in their French classes.
- Throughout lockdown, I have been tutoring my 13-year-old brother in Spanish and have seen a huge improvement in his end of term assessment grades.
- I have also been an au-pair in Barcelona where I looked after two Spanish girls aged 8-11 so I am familiar with communication with younger students.

About the lesson

Who will I tutor?
- I would be happy to tutor primary, secondary, and GCSE students in French, Spanish, or Italian.
- I can offer my help to A-Level students in French and Spanish.
- I welcome any beginner of any age learning French, Spanish or Italian.

Teaching methods?
Intermediate - Advanced:
-Reading through an extract/book/news article in a foreign language together, relating to an interest that the student has to focus on pronunciation and note down any new vocabulary. Discuss what we have read in English then formulate a summary of the text in the foreign language. Personally, this method of learning new vocabulary without simply staring at a list of words has helped me hugely with learning languages. Writing a summary has enabled me to speed up my understanding of a language while reading.
- Practicing conversations in a foreign language about any topic.
- Offering advice and corrections for grammar exercises that I can provide.

Beginner:
- Learning basic vocabulary and conversational techniques in the language.
- Offering grammar advice, including conjugations of verbs and sentence structure.
- Completing simple exercises relating to grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing.

How do I teach?
- Learning a language through conversational practice and reading short texts are the perfect way to advance your language skills.
- I will listen to any concerns that the student has before beginning the lesson and address these topics as a priority.
