About Rachel
Hi, I’m Rachel, a Bachelor of Science student at the University of Melbourne, pursuing an Electrical Engineering pathway. I have a strong academic background in mathematics, achieving an ATAR of 92.5, a score of 43/50 on the VCE Mathematical Methods final examination, and 96/100 in university-level Calculus 1. My current university WAM is 84/100.
Having recently completed VCE, I understand both the academic demands students face and the pressure that can come with tests and examinations. My goal is to make mathematics feel clear, manageable and less intimidating. I explain difficult concepts step by step, identify gaps in understanding and provide targeted practice to help students build genuine confidence.
I am patient, reliable and well-prepared. Each lesson is adapted to the student’s level, learning style and goals. I focus not only on helping students find the correct answer, but also on teaching them how to approach unfamiliar problems independently. Lessons may include concept explanations, guided examples, homework support, revision and exam preparation.
I welcome students in Years 7–10, VCE Mathematical Methods students and those studying introductory university calculus. Lessons are available in English or Mandarin. I am committed to providing a respectful, encouraging and professional learning environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress.

My tutoring approach is patient, structured and tailored to each student’s individual needs. I focus on helping students understand the reasoning behind mathematical methods rather than simply memorising formulas.
At the beginning of a lesson, I identify the student’s current understanding, learning goals and areas of difficulty. I then explain each concept in clear, manageable steps, using diagrams, worked examples and connections to concepts the student already understands. After demonstrating a method, I guide the student through similar questions before asking them to solve problems independently. I provide immediate feedback, correct misunderstandings and teach useful problem-solving and exam techniques.
I also encourage students to explain their reasoning aloud. This allows me to identify gaps in their understanding and helps them develop confidence in communicating mathematical ideas. Lessons can be adapted to focus on concept development, homework assistance, test preparation or revision of previous topics.
A typical lesson is 60 minutes. However, I can offer 45-minute lessons for younger students or 90-minute sessions for intensive revision and exam preparation.
I am a first-year Bachelor of Science student at the University of Melbourne, following an Electrical Engineering pathway. I achieved an ATAR of 92.5, scored 43/50 on the VCE Mathematical Methods final examination and received 96/100 in Calculus 1 at university. My current WAM is 84/100. Although I am at the beginning of my formal tutoring career, I have recent first-hand experience with the VCE curriculum and understand the challenges students face when progressing from secondary school to university mathematics.
My lessons are suitable for secondary school students, particularly those in Years 7–10, as well as VCE Mathematical Methods students. I can also support students studying introductory university-level calculus. I am able to teach in both English and Mandarin.
