About Matthew

Hello! My name is Matthew Eagles, and I am passionate about helping students achieve their academic goals. I hold a First Class Honours degree in Economics and Econometrics, with a GPA of 86.5, and I have also passed the Investment Management Certificate. Currently, I work as a consultant at a FTSE100 fintech company. My strong academic background and professional experience equip me with the knowledge and skills to effectively support students in their learning journey. I believe that education is the key to unlocking potential and creating opportunities. This belief drives my dedication to teaching. I find immense satisfaction in helping students understand complex concepts and develop confidence in their abilities. My teaching philosophy revolves around tailoring lessons to each student's unique learning style, ensuring they fully grasp the material and can apply it confidently. Outside of academics, I am an avid boulderer and enjoy playing football, supporting Brentford FC, and staying active at the gym. I believe that a healthy body fosters a healthy mind, and I incorporate this philosophy into my teaching approach. I also have a keen interest in reading, particularly Investors Chronicle and Financial Times, and I enjoy discussing politics and economics. These hobbies keep me engaged with current affairs and continuously learning, which I bring into my lessons to make them more relevant and interesting. About the lesson

Teaching Techniques and Methodology: The cornerstone of my tutoring approach is understanding the individual learning style of each student. This allows me to tailor lessons to their unique needs. I start by ensuring that the student has a thorough understanding of the core concepts of the lesson. Once this foundation is solid, I use repetition to reinforce their understanding, helping it become second nature through "muscle memory." During this process, I identify any weak spots in their comprehension and address them with additional explanations and targeted repetition. Lesson Length: To maximise concentration and focus, I typically conduct lessons that last one hour. If a longer session is necessary, I recommend breaking it up with a half-hour PT session (conducted by me) before continuing with another hour of learning. This not only helps to avoid mental fatigue but also supports the concept of a healthy body fostering a healthy mind. Qualifications and Experience: I hold a First Class Honours degree in Economics and Econometrics, with a GPA of 86.5. Additionally, I have passed the Investment Management Certificate and currently work as a consultant at a FTSE100 fintech company. My academic background and professional experience equip me with the knowledge and skills to effectively tutor students. Target Audience: My tutoring services are suitable for students of all ages, up to and including those preparing for A-level exams. I have experience tutoring the children of friends and family, and I am happy to provide references upon request. My aim is to help each student achieve their academic goals and develop a strong, lasting understanding of the subject matter.
