About James
I'm a BSc Mathematics graduate who graduated from the University of Sussex last June with a 1st class honours.
I spent my whole degree helping out my course mates and now, having been out in the corporate world for a while, I’ve decided I want to come back to the maths world and help people to succeed again.
Maths has always been my strongest subject and I want to help other people feel the same way about maths too.

I give lessons to students studying mathematics, further mathematics, and statistics at GCSE/AS/A level.
I apply the scientifically proven best method of how to learn a topic and solidify it in your brain – active recall. This is the same method I used to get an A* in both maths and further maths at GCSE, an A in maths at A level, and a 1st class honours in my degree. In a nutshell, active recall involves the repeated reciting of the method used to solve problems. Every time you recall something from memory it strengthens the neural links in your brain – think about your most fond memory, you’ve recalled it so many times you’ll never be able to forget it. The same methodology applies to revision too, and this is what I structure my lessons around.
When it comes to explaining the topis themselves before we get to the active recall stage, I prefer to use analogies and real-world examples, followed by meticulous step-by-step instructions. I've always found that students find it easier to understand a topic when they can visualise it in the real world and then, once they've grasped the topic, having a set of step-by-step instructions means they can't fail.
I'm friendly and approachable, and I won't give up until you can explain the topic back to me as well as I can explain it to you.
